(Prepositions)

In the prior examples, we looked at the prepositions:

Greek Prepositions_1-4

We looked at our time and space relationship to God. Let's continue in this subject, and introduce two
more prepositions that show where we are in our relations with God, and what direction we're headed.

These 2 new prepositions are:

Greek Prepositions_5-6

With these 2 prepositions in mind, we're going to look at the very first thing that Jesus told men to do and that was to Repent. You'll find that in Matthew 4:17, which says " From that time Jesus began to preach and say Repent for the kingdom of heaven is at hand." In Hebrews 6:1 it goes a little further and tells us what we need to repent from, and that is dead works.

Hebrews 6:1 says "Therefore leaving the elementary teaching about the Christ, let us press on to maturity, not laying again a foundation of repentance from dead works, and faith toward God."

So let's examine these 2 prepositions from and toward in the Greek and see if the translators used the best words for each:

1. repentance away from dead works

Preposition-APO

apo (απο) or away from takes into account time, or where you will be tomorrow, the next day and later on. If you change your mind and go away from dead works the following will happen:

1. next week it will be out of reach

2. next month it will be out of sight

Preposition-Dead Works_3

3. next year it will be out of mind.

Conclusion: When a person changes their mind away from dead works, they constantly put an ever-increasing distance between them and those dead works. The word work in Greek is erg or energy, dead works is dead energy or man's way of pleasing God, or any action that results in death, separation from God.

Hebrews 6:1 - "Therefore let us leave the elementary teaching about the Christ and go onto maturity, not laying again a foundation of repentance from dead works and of faith on God."

2. faith on God

epi (επι) or upon, (Greek says faith on, or upon) God not toward. Nothing separating you from God and especially not a man - Just you and the Father through His son Jesus!
